Refinery use
In the petrochemicals industry, calibrated gas mixtures and Certified Reference Materials are used to calibrate gas chromatographs for determining the actual composition of refinery gases. Hydrogen-based gas mixtures, for example, are used in crude oil refining processes to measure the composition of the gas streams generated in fractional distillation columns, thus allowing precise control of the transformation processes. The petrochemicals industry is also required to adhere to the Emission Trading System (EU ETS), which is the main instrument used by the EU to control emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases. Companies therefore need to know the quantity of carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalent they emit, and to do this they need to know the exact composition of the streams they burn off. SIAD gas mixtures are therefore used to calibrate the gas chromatograph designed for continuous monitoring of samples. SIAD petrochemical industry gas mixtures are also used by oil and natural gas refineries and chemicals plants for the calibration and correct operation of laboratory gas chromatographs, process control gas chromatographs, and gas analyzers and detectors.
