SIAD is one of Italy’ leading chemicals groups. It is a leading producer and supplier of a full range of industrial, medical and special gases, and associated services, operating in many different fields whose work depends on gas, such as healthcare. We are also producers of certified gas mixtures.
Our history
1960s
Construction of the Laboratory in parallel with the opening of the SIAD facility in Osio Sopra. The laboratory is established for the purpose of providing support for cryogenic production and analyses, and the production of calibration gas mixtures is launched.
1970s
The manometric method of preparing calibration gas mixtures is phased out and replaced with the gravimetric method.
1970s
Production of special gases for use in the electronics industry comes on-stream.
1970s
New analytical methods for gas analysis are developed.
1980s
The production of calibration gas mixtures for the electronics industry is industrialized.
1994
The Research Laboratory obtains ISO 9001 certification.
2001
The laboratory obtains accreditation from SIT (Italy’s national calibration service) for the calibration of calibration gas mixtures (becoming the first center in Italy to do so).
2005
The first extension of the Accreditation Table is obtained. Various additional extensions (ppb NO, NO2, SO2, ppb SO2 etc.) are obtained in the years that follow.
2018
The company obtains ISO 17034 certification as a certified Reference Materials Producer.
2020
€15 million euros are invested in the construction of a new laboratory for research and experimentation relating to the production of innovative gas mixtures.
2021
Accreditation is extended again (accreditation for butanol is added, NO limits are lowered, accreditation for argon methane is added).

Producer of accredited gas mixtures
SIAD is a leading supplier of industrial gas mixtures for use in a wide variety of industrial and scientific research sectors. Our gas mixtures are produced to the highest standards of safety, accuracy and quality, using state-of-the art preparation systems.
The SIAD Research Laboratory became Accredited Calibration Laboratory (ACL) No. 143 in 2001, and is also accredited as Reference Materials Producer (RMP) No. 143.
The ACL and the RMP were spawned by the SIAD Research Laboratory and its decades-long experience and expertise in the preparation and analysis of traceable calibration gas mixtures. The accredited gas mixtures derive from the development and fine-tuning of SIAD’s procedures for preparing calibration gas mixtures.
The technical gas mixtures produced by the RMP and the calibrations performed by the ACL are traceable to national and international unit of measurement standards pertaining to the International System of Units (SI).
The metrological traceability of the gas mixtures produced and calibrated by SIAD’s RMP and ACL derives from:
- Mass standards calibrated by a Primary Metrology Institute or by an Accredited Center used for gravimetric preparation of the gas mixtures
- Gas mixtures certified by a Primary Metrology Institute
- Gas mixtures prepared and certified by the ACL itself, which are the internal traceable standards.
